Customs officers in Nogales seized 160 pounds of cocaine hidden in an SUV on Sept. 9.

Customs and Border Protection said in a news release the drugs were worth about $1.8 million.

The agency said officers working at the DeConcini crossing in Nogales sent the driver of a Hyundai SUV to a secondary inspection. There, a drug dog found the cocaine in a rear cargo area.

The driver, a 27-year-old man from Hermosillo, Sonora, was arrested.

It was one of four significant seizures worth about $1.9 million at the crossing over the weekend:

  • On Friday, a drug dog located 17 pounds of meth, valued at $52,000 in the front wheels of a Dodge van driver by a 36-year-old Nogales, Arizona, man.
  • Also on Friday, officers seized 3 pounds of heroin from a 16-year-old girl from Nogales, Arizona. The drugs, found in the girl's underwear, were worth about $48,000.
  • On Saturday, officers found a half-pound of meth hidden in a 32-year-old Casa Grande woman's underwear. The drugs were worth about $1,300.

All the drugs and vehicles were seized and the suspects were turned over the Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
