Two teen boys face endangerment and criminal damage charges in connection with shots fired at a Border Patrol vehicle near Sierra Vista, authorities said.
The parents of the teens — ages 15 and 16 — turned their sons in after contacting authorities when they recognized the boys in a photo posted by the Cochise County Sheriff's Office during the investigation.
The incident occurred Dec. 30, 2016 at about 5:30 p.m. The agent, who was operating a mobile surveillance unit, was not injured, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release Tuesday.
Authorities said the agent did not return fire. The assailants fled on foot, states the release.
Cochise County prosecutors are handling the case, states the release.
