Business awards earned in Southern Arizona

University of Arizona: The University of Arizona has been ranked No. 93 — a two-spot increase from 2023 — in the 2024 edition of the Center for World University Rankings. UA also placed at No. 48 among U.S. institutions and No. 26 among public colleges and universities.

The ranking places the university among the top 0.5% of nearly 21,000 colleges and universities worldwide. The number of faculty members who have been awarded major academic distinctions contributed to the university’s showing, with UA placing No. 69 overall in that category.

The university’s overall score (82.2 out of 100) was also strengthened by its research performance (No. 111).

Century Room: Century Room Artistic Director Arthur Vint received the 2024 Jazz Hero award from the Jazz Journalists Association. Vint was recognized for his passion and dedication to the success of the Century Room jazz clubs and his support of the Tucson Jazz Music Foundation.

Flinn-Brown Fellows: Six Southern Arizonans have been named 2024 Flinn-Brown Fellows by the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership.

This year’s Flinn-Brown Fellowship cohort includes leaders from the private and public sector, elected officials, founders of nonprofit organizations and companies, physicians, lawyers, educators and more.

The 2024 Flinn-Brown Fellows for Southern Arizona are:

Vance Bryce, executive director for the Graham County Chamber of Commerce in Safford

Tina Dorsey, vice president of commercial banking for First Citizens Bank in Tucson

Manuel Felix, founder and CEO of AZ Cyber Initiative in Tucson

Alexa Lucchese, government affairs manager for Cox Communications in Tucson

Jason Zibart, the community connected health manager for Benson Hospital in Benson

The 2024 Fellows will participate in the fall Flinn-Brown Academy, a public policy institute.

A member of various boards, the honor underscores Sharpe’s commitment to fostering community well-being and development throughout Arizona.
