Business awards earned in Southern Arizona

University of Arizona: The UA has once again earned a place alongside the world’s top academic research programs for water resources. The UA is ranked No. 2 in the U.S. and No. 8 globally in water resources in ShanghaiRanking’s 2023 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. The university also earned a top-five U.S. ranking in geography (No. 4 in the U.S., No. 34 globally).

It also earned a top-10 ranking in library and information science (No. 9 U.S., No. 10 global).

Other top rankings include:

Earth sciences (No. 13 U.S., No. 30 global)

Aerospace engineering (No. 14 U.S., No. 42 global)

Atmospheric science (No. 17 U.S., No. 30 global)

Ecology (tied for No. 18 in the U.S., No. 51-75 globally)

Sociology (No. 29 U.S., No. 50 global)

Southern Arizona VA Health Care System: Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA) recognized Southern Arizona VA Health Care System as a 2023 Quality Award recipient.

Tucson VA received the following three 2023 AzHHA Quality Awards:

The Community Engagement Award highlighting a health care facilities’ exceptional commitment to community involvement.

The Emergency Management Innovation award for safeguarding the community, maintaining a high level of emergency response readiness, and fostering resilience in the face of unforeseen events.

The Top Overall Excellence award recognizing the highest achievement among the top winners from each category.

Congressman Juan Ciscomani: U.S. Congressman Juan Ciscomani was named the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Public Servant of the Year. The THCC honored Ciscomani with the award at its 2023 Noche de Exitos & Bi-National Awards Gala.

Villa Hermosa: Villa Hermosa, an active retirement community owned and operated by Senior Resource Group, has been re-accredited by CARF International, an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.

The reaccreditation — which is valid through 2026 — is for both independent and assisted living.

Villa Hermosa completed a voluntary peer review process and demonstrated to a team of surveyors that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurability and accountability. The survey team’s report highlighted the visibility and accessibility of the leadership team, long-tenured staff and life enrichment activities and wellness programs.
