Startup Tucson: Startup Tucson has named the winners of its sixth accelerator showcase. Twenty-one Tucson entrepreneurs working in the creative and food industries presented their products to the local business ecosystem, and six took home a total of $3,500-plus in prize money. Winners were named for Startup Tucson’s creative business pre-accelerator, Canvas, and the food business pre-accelerator, Food Forward.

Canvas
First place went to Elliot the Potter, who makes pottery for people seeking a connection with art, the Earth and handmade goods.
Ashes to Light/SD Gallery, which transforms ashes into paintings, took home second place.
People’s Choice went to AlignWear, which designs wearable fitness products for alignment, protection and style
Food Forward
Ouef White Bakeshop’s french pastries earned first place
Second place went to Cycling Moon Cafe, a craft chocolate company
People’s Choice went to Chulas Cocina, a private chef specializing in Mexican and Caribbean flavors.
Caring Transitions: Sherri Gillette, the owner of Caring Transitions of Southern Arizona, has been recognized as a member of the Million Dollar Elite Club. The honor is awarded to Caring Transitions franchisees who have reached or exceeded $1 million in earnings.
With more than 20 years of experience working for large corporations, Gillette has made Caring Transitions Southern Arizona a multiple recipient of franchise of the year and the Pioneer Spirit award, and has been the No. 1 franchise in the country since 2013.
Gillette is also actively involved in supporting new and established owners with training and problem-solving.
Silver Springs: Silver Springs, an active retirement community owned and operated by Senior Resource Group, has been reaccredited by CARF International. The certification is the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to a retirement community.
To receive the three-year reaccreditation, Silver Springs completed a voluntary peer review process and demonstrated to a team of surveyors that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurability and accountability. The survey team’s report highlighted the community’s positive reputation, the dining program, and the innovative practice of transitioning levels of care without a physical change in location.
