The Statue of the Immaculate Conception (Virgin Mary) is carefully lifted to its niche high above the retablo mayor at Mission San Xavier del Bac south of Tucson on May 3, 2016. Action Scaffolding erected the structure and pulley for raising the statue into place with help from docents, an engineer and art conservators Tim Lewis and Matilde Rubio, who restored the statue to itís original splendor. As reported in the Star, it is believed that the 5-foot, 2-inch tall statue was made in Querétaro, Mexico, north of Mexico City, where in colonial days the Franciscan order, whose missionaries built San Xavier in 1797, was centered. Lewis and Rubio said the statue was located above the high altar in the 1940s.

An A-10 pilot with the "Termites" 47th Fighter Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force base fires 30mm munitions from the aircraft's main Gatling-type gun during the Hawgsmoke 2016 A-10 bombing and gunnery competition at the Barry Goldwater Air Force Range west of Gila Bend, Ariz. Thirteen A-10 squadrons competed in high- and low-angle bombing runs before taking strafing runs. The 47th Fighter Squadron, based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, won hosting priviledges after winning the 2014 competition.

The Statue of the Immaculate Conception (Virgin Mary) is carefully lifted to its niche high above the retablo mayor at Mission San Xavier del Bac south of Tucson on May 3, 2016. Action Scaffolding erected the structure and pulley for raising the statue into place with help from docents, an engineer and art conservators Tim Lewis and Matilde Rubio, who restored the statue to itís original splendor. As reported in the Star, it is believed that the 5-foot, 2-inch tall statue was made in Querétaro, Mexico, north of Mexico City, where in colonial days the Franciscan order, whose missionaries built San Xavier in 1797, was centered. Lewis and Rubio said the statue was located above the high altar in the 1940s.
