Mariachis students in Tucson help raise funds for Houston mariachis students who lost instruments in Hurricane Harvey

The mother of a former Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo High School performer came up with the idea for the fundraiser so they can purchase new instruments damaged in the Hurricane Harvey, said Nora Moreno. It took around two weeks to organize the event which involved 14 mariachi groups and four folklorico groups, she said. Richard Carranza, Houston's superintendent, is a former mariachi performer and Pueblo graduate.Β
