Two young people were wounded at Park Place mall Wednesday night when a brawl involving several youths resulted in gunfire, police say.

The incident happened about 7 p.m. near the mall's food court and a play area for children, Tucson police said Thursday.

No bystanders in the usually busy area of the mall were wounded.

Two juveniles believed involved in the fight were wounded and taken to a hospital, police said.

Off-duty officers working at the mall responded immediately, secured the area and helped search the property, the release said. No arrests have been made.

The mall was evacuated and police were on scene for hours.

"This type of violence in a public space is deeply concerning, and we want to reassure the community that this incident appears to be isolated," police said in the release. "Detectives from the Shooting Investigations Unit (SIU) are working diligently to identify and locate those responsible."

Police ask anyone who was at the mall with information about the incident or images captured on cellphone to contact 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line.

"Even small details may be critical to this investigation," police said.
