The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is warning about a phone scam that has target several people here, including one person who lost $10,000.

In the past two days, the department received more than a dozen calls reporting they were told the department had an arrest warrant for them.

The calls even appeared to come of the sheriff's department.

People who responded would eventually be linked with a scammer who would try to bilk them .

One person lost $10,000 in the scheme, while others β€œnarrowly avoided” becoming a victim, the department said on social media.

The department warned residents to stay vigilant, as scams are very active this time of year.

Anyone who suspects being scammed should call the department's financial crimes and fraud hotline at 520-351-3000.
