A pedestrian struck in an east-side hit-and-run on Jan. 6 died Saturday of his injuries, the Tucson Police Department says.
Brallan Alberto Nidez Guzman died, 30, police said.
Police gave the following account in a news release Saturday, Jan. 17:
Guzman was struck shortly before 5 a.m. Jan. 6 in the 6400 block of East 22nd Street; first responders took him to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Detectives determined Guzman had walked onto the road, stopped and was struck in the center lane of eastbound 22nd. He was about 25 feet from a HAWK (High-intensity Activated crossWalK) pedestrian crossing.
The vehicle involved in the collision fled without stopping.
On Jan. 10, Tucson police located the vehicle involved in the collision and its suspected driver. James Anthony Badia, 57, was booked into the Pima County jail on suspicion of failure to stop for an accident involving death or serious injury, a felony.
