Tucson police are investigating an attempted abduction Thursday night of a woman walking near the University of Arizona campus.

The incident occurred about 8 p.m. south of campus near North Mountain Avenue and East Eighth Street, Tucson police said Friday in a news release.

The woman was walking west on Eighth Street when she noticed a vehicle was following her. At some point, the driver parked, got out of the car and grabbed the woman from behind, the release said.

During the struggle the woman dropped to the ground and started screaming. The man ran back to the car and drove off, the release said.

Police searched the area but were unable to find the attacker, the release said.

The attacker is a heavyset man about 5-feet 10inches tall who wore an orange fleece hoodie. He drove a blue or purple four-door vehicle, possibly a Toyota Prius, with tinted windows and dents along the front.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tips line.
