The search Monday morning for a man Tucson police described as "violent" and "dangerous" is over.

The unidentified gunman was apprehended after 9 a.m., police said on social media. No details were immediately provided.

Early Monday Tucson police urged people to stay in their homes as several officers combed blocks of a midtown area for a suspected gunman they said was armed and had been  involved in several violent crimes.

The search affected an area loosely bordered by East 22nd Street on the north, East Silverlake Road on the south, South Country Club Road on the west and  South Jones Boulevard on the east. The area is immediately south of Reid Park.

A warning from police said the man tried to break into multiple homes and was considered dangerous. "Stay inside, lock your doors, and avoid the area as officers continue the search," police warned in a post on X.

About 9:30 a.m. Police posted on social media that the man had been apprehended.

It told residents to expect to see patrol cars in the affected area for several hours, "Due to the nature of the various incidents."
