Two students at Cienega High School were arrested Friday after a gun was found on the Vail school's campus, authorities say.
The unidentified students, a freshman and a sophomore, were arrested on suspicion of being a minor in possession of a firearm, a minor in possession of a firearm on school and disrupting an educational institution, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
The incident started Friday morning when a student reported being shown the weapon by another student.
The school's resource officer and additional deputies found the gun and later conducted a sweep of the campus at 12775 E Mary Ann Cleveland Way.
A second student who investigators learned "was involved with the same weapon earlier this week at the school," also was arrested.
The investigation is ongoing.
