An armed man who was shot and killed in a confrontation with police last month has been identified in a new report by a multi-agency task force that investigates local law enforcement shootings.
About 9:30 p.m. Oct. 26, Tucson police officers responded to calls about a man firing a gun into the air in the 100 block of West Bilby Road, according to a news release Tuesday from the Pima Regional Critical Incident Team.
Officers arrived at the scene and the man again began to fire the gun from the front yard of a home, the release said.
An officer then fired a single round from his department-issued rifle, striking the man identified in the release as Matthew Salinas, 43. He died at the scene.
The officer who fired was Joshua Camacho, an 8-year veteran of the Tucson Police Department, the release said.
There were no other injuries.
As part of the PRCIT, the Pima County Sheriffβs Department and the Oro Valley Police Department are assigned primary responsibility for the criminal investigation of the shooting. TPD will conduct an internal review.
The PRCIT findings will be submitted presented to the Pima County Attorneyβs Office, which is standard procedure.
