Marana police officers are investigating a four-vehicle crash in which one man died on North Thornydale Road, between West Orange Grove Road and West Costco Drive on April 6, 2016.

Police have released the identity of a man who died in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Marana.

Ray Vyron Gibson, 93, was unresponsive when rescue crews arrived and pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was reported at 1:30 p.m. and was in the northbound lanes of North Thornydale Road, between West Orange Grove Road and West Costco Drive, said Sgt. Chris Warren, a Marana Police Department spokesman.

No other motorists were injured, said Capt. Brian Keeley of Northwest Fire District.

Warren said investigators are looking into the cause of the crash, and whether Gibson was experiencing a medical condition when the collision occurred. His body was taken to the Pima County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

A preliminary investigation shows that all four vehicles were traveling north on Thornydale Road when Gibson struck a vehicle, causing a chain reaction and rear-end collisions of the other three vehicles, Warren said.
