Homicide detectives with the Tucson Police Department are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found on the southeast side of town Thursday afternoon.
"The body appears to be a young female," either a juvenile or a young adult, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a department spokesman.
The body was found in the desert area near a new housing development near East Mary Ann Cleveland Way and Steve Street. It is about two miles east of South Houghton Road, said Dugan.
Dugan was not able to say if the person was an adult or child, but he did say the death was recent.
A worker at the housing development was checking on a home and when he was driving out of the area, he saw the body in a desert area, Dugan said. He called 911 and when officers arrived they took over the scene.
"Homicide detectives are trying to figure out what took place," said Dugan.
No further information was immediately available.
