Pima County Sheriff deputies gather outside Firebirds Grill at La Encantada following hours of interviewing witnesses to a shooting that left two men dead on Friday, April 14, 2017.

A shooting inside a crowded restaurant at La Encantada mall Friday night left two men dead and a woman wounded, officials say.

The shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. inside Firebirds, a popular restaurant in the upscale Foothills mall at North Campbell Avenue and East Skyline Drive, said Deputy Cody Gress, a Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesman.

Details were sketchy Friday night, but Gress said two men were killed and a woman was shot in the leg inside the restaurant. The woman was taken to a hospital and her injury is described as not life-threatening.

Gress said all three people involved knew each other. He also said only one gun was used in the shooting.

Gress did not disclose the nature of the trio’s relationship, nor was a possible motive released last night.

Detectives were in the process of interviewing a “double-digit” number of witnesses who had to be rushed out of the restaurant after the shooting.

None of the many patrons in Firebirds were wounded in the shooting.
