University of Arizona and Tucson police officers will work traffic enforcement near campus Wednesday morning.

The Community Awareness through Traffic Safety program is set to have motorcycle officers at two Speedway intersections between 7 and 10 a.m., said Sgt. Filbert Barrera, a University of Arizona Police Department spokesman.

Officers will be targeting East Speedway at North Park Avenue, and Speedway at North Mountain Avenue.

Police hope to reduce crashes and increase safety awareness for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians, said Barrera in a news release Monday.

The joint effort will target intersections within and bordering the campus. Another traffic and education deployment is set for Nov. 30 between 7 and 10 a.m.

The deployment dates, times and locations will be publicized through UAPD announcements, social media and local media, said Barrera.

Motorcycle officers actively enforce traffic violations during peak travel times, he said.
