A reward of $1,000 is offered for information about a deer killing.

The reward for information leading to an arrest in the illegal killing of a whitetail deer has been upped to $1,000.

The incident occurred Oct. 9 in the Charouleau Gap area of the Catalina Mountains north of Tucson.

State wildlife officials said Rincon Outfitters in Tucson has added $250 to the $750 reward offer by the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Operation Game Thief in the case. It involves an untagged buck that was killed and left to waste off Forest Service Road 4496 near Ruin Tank.

“Many thanks to Rincon Outfitters for increasing the reward,” said Raul Vega, regional supervisor of Game and Fish in Tucson. “Poachers are not hunters, but thieves who steal wildlife from the citizens of Arizona.”

Poaching is punishable by up to a $750 fine and six months in jail under state law. In addition, civil assessments and hunting license revocations may be imposed by the Arizona Game and Fish Commission.

People with information about the case are asked to contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-352-0700.
