TUSD Schools

Magee Middle School on East Speedway is one Tucson Unified School District campus that has seen dwindling numbers of students and increased competition for those pupils.

Magee Middle School has been awarded a $5,000 grant by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.

The money will be used to support the HeartMath project, a technology program that helps improve learning performance and emotional health.

Students will be able to see how emotions and attitude affect their heart rhythm patterns in real time and confirms when they are in a state of coherence.

Initially the program will be used for students receiving counseling and speech services through exceptional education. The program will expand to include students referred for behavioral issues.

Magee is one of 22 winning schools in the D-backs $100,000 School Challenge and the only Tucson school selected.

Each winning school will receive a check on the field at a spring 2016 D-backs game. The team will donate 1,000 tickets for students, parents teachers and staff to attend the game where their school will be honored.

More than 300 Arizona schools submitted requests to fund educational programs, innovation and technology, nutrition and fitness or school improvements.
