Gov. Katie Hobbs

Gov. Katie Hobbs announced she will appoint Liz Archuleta and Jadyn Fisher to the Arizona Board of Regents in an effort to bring “increased transparency and accountability.”

“I am proud to add two outstanding members to the Arizona Board of Regents who share the mission of strengthening higher education for all Arizonans,” Hobbs said in her statement Thursday. “I am looking forward to working with Liz, Jadyn and the other board members to improve accountability and transparency with the university system.”

Hobbs previously criticized ABOR for a lack of accountability and oversight of the University of Arizona’s finances after the university revealed a $177 million deficit the regents failed to catch.

Archuleta will serve as a regent while Fisher, a student at Northern Arizona University, will be a student regent.

“Liz Archuleta brings exceptional expertise in governance, management and budgetary matters to ABOR,” Hobbs wrote. “As a student regent, Jadyn Fisher will be excellent in representing the voice and perspectives of our university students from across the state.”

Archuleta is a fourth-generation Northern Arizona native who serves Coconino, Apache and Navajo counties as president and CEO of the United Way of Northern Arizona.

“As a native Arizonan with five generations of family roots in Flagstaff, I bring my pioneering family history, knowledge of rural Arizona and a strong commitment to education and community building, coupled with extensive experience in board governance, public service and leadership,” Archuleta said in a statement “I am ready to roll up my sleeves and help shape the future of higher education in Arizona.”

A graduate of NAU, Archuleta is set to replace outgoing regent Lyndel Manson, whose term has expired.

Fisher, the student regent, said in a statement that she is “so honored to have the opportunity” to represent NAU.

“I am incredibly passionate about advocating for students and look forward to stepping into this role,” she said.

She will replace Katelyn Rees, a UA student who has concluded her two-year term. Fisher is pursuing a bachelor’s of science in elementary education and is in the Honors College at NAU.
