Pima Community College has announced Ian Roark as its provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and workforce development.

Roark had been serving as PCC’s interim provost since 2024. The provost is responsible for all academic affairs and workforce development, overseeing areas such as curriculum, faculty development, accreditation and academic programs.

He was previously head of the college’s Workforce Development and Innovation division and has been with PCC since 2015.

Former provost Dolores DurΓ‘n-Cerda took a cabinet-level position, as vice chancellor for Hispanic-serving institution initiatives and community engagement, before departing from PCC.

Roark’s appointment comes after an β€œextensive consultation process” by Chancellor Jeffrey Nasse, which included conversations with faculty, staff and community partners, PCC said in a news release Wednesday.

PCC’s move to bring academic affairs and workforce development under a singular leadership structure will β€œeliminate silos and better connect students to transfer pathways, career opportunities, and work-based learning,” the release said.

β€œDr. Roark embodies the collaborative, student-centered leadership Pima needs at this moment,” Nasse said in the announcement. β€œThis appointment underscores our commitment to student success above all else.”

Roark has been successful in expanding PCC partnerships with major employers and community organizations such as Raytheon, Banner University Medical Center, AGM Container Controls and American Medical Response, and creating more opportunities for students, the release said.

Under his leadership, PCC also earned national recognition from the Harvard Project on Workforce and the Higher Learning Commission.

Roark received his undergraduate degree in music with a minor in government from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, followed by a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Texas, Permian Basin. He earned a doctorate of education in leadership and administration from the University of Texas, San Antonio.
