Emerge! Center Against Domestic Abuse has received a $15,000 grant to build a new playground at its emergency shelter.
The Letβs Play Community Construction Grant was awarded by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and the nonprofit KaBOOM!
The funding will allow Emerge to design, purchase and install a playground to be used by families receiving services at its shelter.
While Emerge already has a playground at its shelter for older children, the new playground will be for toddlers.
Groundbreaking on the new playground is expected to be in the spring.
Emerge has already served 300 children in its emergency shelter this year, with about half the children being 4 and younger.
The grant is part of Letβs Play, an initiative by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group to provide the tools to make active play a daily priority for children.
The Dr. Pepper Snapple Group has committed more than $35 million to the Letβs Play program through 2019.
Part of that is to partner with nonprofits KaBOOM and Good Sports to build and improve playgrounds in underserved communities as well as provide grants for sports equipment.
