A 38-year-old woman involved in a shooting with a Sheriff's deputy succumbed to her injuries from the incident, the department said Sunday morning.

The department identified the female suspect as Amanda Alvarez.

The incident took place around 4 p.m. Saturday in the 4700 block of West Camino Tierra near Valencia Road, said Deputy James Allerton, a sheriff's department spokesman.

Initial reports stated Alvarez, who was not a resident at the home,  had a wood two-by-four and struck a resident. She was located on the property when deputies arrived.

"Shortly after locating the female, one deputy was involved in a shooting," the department said. The deputy was identified as Samuel Herrera, who has been with the department almost two years.

There were no deputies reported injured. No further information from the investigation has been released.
