Supervisor Jen Allen will be the board chair. Supervisor Matt Heinz will serve as vice chair. Their terms begin with the board's Jan. 20 meeting.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors will switch its regular meeting schedule from mornings to evenings in a bid to make it easier for members of the public to attend.

Beginning May 12, meetings will begin at 5 p.m.

Also, meetings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. That means they no longer will conflict with meetings for Tucson's city council, which are held on the first and third Tuesday of the month.

The new schedule will last through June. Supervisors have yet to approve a meeting schedule for the second half of the year.

Additionally, Supervisors will be adding one afternoon study session to their monthly schedule. The study session will begin at 1 p.m. ahead of the board's first meeting of each month. The first study session is set to be held May 12.

Supervisors unanimously approved the schedule changes Tuesday.

The board also selected its new chair and vice chair for the year.

Supervisor Jen Allen will be the board chair. Supervisor Matt Heinz will serve as vice chair. Their terms begin with the board's Jan. 20 meeting.

The board voted 4-0 for both appointments. Supervisor Steve Christy, the lone Republican on the board, abstained.

Being the board chair is a largely ceremonial post that typically changes on an annual basis. The main duty of the board chair is to run the meetings.

Allen, a Democrat, was first elected to represent the largest of Pima County's five districts in 2024. District 3 covers about 7,400 square miles in the western part of the county and shares about 130 miles of international border with Mexico.

Heinz, a Democrat and former state lawmaker, is an emergency room doctor. He was first elected to represent District 2 in 2020. It stretches from midtown to Sahuarita.
