A woman believes the city should pay her $250,000 because she was injured when she tripped on an uneven sidewalk at the Tucson Convention Center.
Sondra Swank and her husband, Michael, stated in documents that she is suffering after falling face-first into the concrete walkway while at the TCC in June.
“Sondra has suffered a great deal of pain due to the injuries she sustained. In addition to the medical problems, it should be obvious that Sondra is experiencing a significant amount of physical pain and discomfort along with emotional anxiety and frustration because of her injuries,” wrote Danelle Perata, an attorney representing the couple.
Perata stated in the claim that her client recently had reconstructive surgery to set her fractured nose and help improve breathing.
A claim is a precursor to a formal lawsuit and the couple has offered to settle the matter with the city for $250,000.
A summary of her medical bills — including an $11,459 charge for an emergency room visit to St. Mary’s Hospital — was included in her claim against the city.
In total, the two-page document lists nearly $16,000 in medical bills, although Perata said more medical bills are coming.
Additionally, Swank has trouble with even small activities.
“Simple activities such as housework, carrying groceries, or even walking is very difficult for her,” he wrote.
Perata did not respond to the Star’s request for comment.
Glenn Grabski, the general manager for the convention center, declined to comment and referred all questions to City Attorney Mike Rankin.
Rankin said Wednesday that the complaint is under review.
