U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva, a Tucson Democrat, called Friday for President Trump to be removed from office.

Speaking on the Bill Buckmaster radio show, on KVOI 1030-AM, Grijalva said he agrees with U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier, a Democrat from California, who said this week it's time for the 25th Amendment to be put to use to remove Trump.

Grijalva said the president's reaction to the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, last weekend was essentially the last straw.

"There’s an accumulation of issues that bring into question this man’s ability to lead," Grijalva said.

Under the 25th Amendment, the president can be temporarily removed by a vote of the vice president and the majority of the president's cabinet if they find him "unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office." Congress must then decide by a two-thirds vote of both houses that the president is unfit to remain in office.

The process has never been used to remove a president.

"It’s a constitutional means that’s available," Grijalva said. "It’s not a far-fetched reaction to what’s going on with Trump and his administration."

Good News Broadcasting owner Doug Martin pointed out to Grijalva that would give Republicans an advantage because Vice President Mike Pence, a conservative, would take over.

Grijalva responded, "Right now it’s the collective advantage of the American people we need to worry about."
