Eastbound travel on Interstate 10 in Benson will halted for at least an hour Sunday night, so that an oversized load can make its way down the one-mile stretch of road between Arizona 90 and Arizona 80, officials said.

The closure could begin as early as 10 p.m. and end as late as 2 a.m. Monday, as the load’s extremely slow speed of travel makes it difficult to estimate when it will reach I-10, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Officials did not disclose the nature of the load or its destination.

The load will be traveling west in the eastbound lanes of traffic, entering at exit 303 and exiting at 302.

As an alternate route, ADOT says that drivers on eastbound I-10 to instead take Arizona 90 south for about 18 miles to Arizona 82, then east to Arizona 80 and north to I-10. However, it’s not clear that taking the alternate route would save drivers a considerable amount of time.
