A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child on Tucson's east side, officials say.

On Friday, Sept. 28, Tucson police responded to a report of an unresponsive child in the 7500 block of East Marc Place, near East 29th Street and South Prudence Road.

The child was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on Monday, according to a news release from the Tucson Police Department.

Detectives learned that 42-year-old George William Robinson was caring for the child when the child sustained the injuries, the release says. Robinson is described as a friend.

Robinson was arrested and booked into the Pima County jail. He is facing child abuse and first degree murder charges.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.
