A man was struck by a vehicle near the University of Arizona Saturday night, sustaining life-threatening injuries, police said.

The vehicle left the scene, said Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a Tucson Police Department spokeswoman.

She said preliminary information indicates the man was on a sidewalk when he was struck on East Sixth Street near North Park Avenue at about 6:30 p.m..

Police did not yet have a description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run but were hoping witnesses would call 911, Bay said.
