Cook and Allen are doing a story we’re calling Tastes of Tucson — 11 dishes that are must-haves, that define Tucson, that are the places to go when you come here, that you miss when you go away. For National Geographic, it's all about the Sonoran dog.

Well not all about it, but Tucson's signature hot dog was quite a draw.

In selecting Tucson as one of their 10 best winter trips for 2017, Nat Geo provided only one reason: The food. Specifically, the Sonoran dog.

"Sure Tucson’s high-end fare fires up foodies. But it’s the affordable eats—like the aforementioned bacon-wrapped hot dog stuffed in a roll and smothered with pinto beans, salsa, onions, tomatoes, mayonnaise, and mustard—that tempt the taste buds of epicureans on a budget," according to the article's opening lines.

Naturally El Guero Canelo and BK Tacos are mentioned as well-known purveyors of Sonoran dogs, but also included is the lesser-known El Perro Loco food truck. Representing other types of Mexican fare, BOCA Tacos y Tequila, Tacos Apson and a few other local favorites also make their way into the article.

Nat Geo also provides potential visitors with a little background on our town, tips on what to bring when you visit ("a bike,") a curated Spotify play list for the trip and an "inside tip" about where to go to experience the city-designated Best 23 Miles of Mexican Food.
