A fire was put out late Monday night at the state corrections training academy. No injuries were reported.

Northwest Fire District crews were dispatched shortly after 9:30 p.m. when a staff member of the Arizona Department of Corrections training academy called 911 to report a blaze, said fire Capt. Brian Keeley.

The academy is in the 5600 block of West Trails End Road. The area is west of North Camino de Oeste and north of West Gates Pass Road.

The staff member reported smoke coming from the roof and fire coming from under a door of the maintenance building, which also houses a wood shop, said Keeley.

Crews battled the fire and brought it under control shortly before 10 p.m.

There were more than 100 corrections officer recruits at the academy for training, but none of them were impacted by the fire. They were all housed in different buildings, Keeley said.

Northwest Fire District investigators were on the scene late last night working to determine the cause of the fire. No damage estimate was released.
