Bishop Edward J. Weisenburger, 56, became the seventh bishop of the 43,000-square-mile Tucson Diocese during an installation Mass at St. Augustine Cathedral on Nov. 29, 2017.
The new leadership comes as Bishop Gerald Kicanas retires, a requirement for all bishops at age 75. Kicanas submitted his letter of retirement to Rome the summer of 2016. The announcement of Weisenburger's appointment by Pope Francis came this October.
