A single propeller airplane crashed at the Willcox Airport Saturday morning, with the pilot receiving minor injuries during the hard landing, officials said.
The Cochise County Sheriff's Office was notified of the crash at noon, sending deputies to the crash site along with the Willcox Fire Department, said Carol Capas, a sheriff's office spokeswoman.
The plane was significantly damaged and the 55-year-old pilot, and sole occupant of the plane, received a head wound during impact, but declined transport to the hospital, Capas said.
Initial reports indicate that the plane took off from Lordsburg, New Mexico and was traveling to Casa Grande earlier today. The pilot was attempting to land at the Willcox Airport, when the plane began shaking and landed hard on the tarmac, Capas said.
The FAA has been notified and is continuing the investigation.
