County road tax

Slowed at just about every turn to find money for road repairs, the Pima County Board of Supervisors will consider a property tax increase.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors approved a final $1.27 billion budget Tuesday that includes a new 25-cent property tax to pay for repairs to local roads.

The budget comes with a 14-cent property tax hike to cover the new tax, with 11 cents in cuts to other property taxes, partially offsetting the roads tax.

The budget was approved 3-2, with supervisors Ally Milly and Steve Christy casting the no votes.

Each had previously expressed β€œreluctant” support for the measure, but retracted their support before the tentative budget was approved on May 23. Both criticized recent changes to the proposal, including a diminished role for supervisors in deciding which roads to prioritize for repair.
