#RedforEd

Tucson High counselor Monicia Porter chants with the crowd during a #RedForEd rally in downtown Tucson earlier this month. The group says it will keep the pressure on state leaders to boost overall education funding.

Organizers with Arizona Educators United, the teacher-led grassroots group, plan to announce the results of the vote for a walkout tonight.

UPDATE: #RedForEd leaders say Arizona teachers voted to walk out, will do so next Thursday

The walkout vote is the latest effort in the state’s #RedForEd movement.

Supporters seek more education funding as well as better pay for teachers and support staff.

Teachers have been voting at schools across the state this week, including Tucson campuses.

The group has not said what voting results will prompt a statewide walkout. The result of the vote is expected to be announced at 8 p.m. in Phoenix.

Gov. Doug Ducey has pushed a plan to increase teacher pay by 20 percent by 2020.
