A National Weather Service video from the University of Arizona campus looking north shows “mountain wave clouds” that look like they’re hugging the Catalina Mountains.

A time-lapse video shared today by the National Weather Service in Tucson shows us how the windy weather is affecting how the clouds look over the Catalina Mountains.

The video from the University of Arizona campus looking north toward the Catalinas shows “mountain wave clouds” that look like they’re hugging the mountaintops.

That’s caused by the strong winds hitting the southwest face of the mountain. “Air is forced to quickly rise and subsequently cool and condense into a cloud,” the NWS explains on its Facebook page.

The result: clouds that look like ocean waves.

The wind has resulted in a blowing dust advisory for Cochise County, specifically the eastern portion of the county near the San Simon area. A portion of Interstate 10 was closed late Monday afternoon due to the dusty conditions i closed between US 191 in southeastern Arizona and Lordsburg, New Mexico.
