Santa Cruz River Project

A coyote takes a break from the heat north of St. Mary's Rd., using the cool mud from the recycled water being pumped into the Santa Cruz River for the Heritage Project, Saturday, June 29, 2019, Tucson, Ariz.

An excessive heat warning is in place from 11 a.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday as possible record-breaking temperatures arrive in Tucson.

Weather officials advise residents to:

  • Plan to drink more water.
  • If possible, avoid outdoor activities.
  • Have a plan for you, your family and pets to stay cool.

We may see some relief come Thursday as scattered storms are expected to keep the area to near normal temperatures, the National Weather Service says.
