The National Park Service is inviting volunteers to help clean up the section of Anza Trail that runs through Tumacácori National Historic Park as part of National Public Lands Day, Sept. 30.
The trail, officially dubbed the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, marks the 1,200-mile overland trek that Spanish Lt. Col. Anza led to establish a colony in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Nearly two miles of that trail runs through the park.
Volunteers will meet in the park picnic area for a brief orientation, then pick up trash from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
The park will provide trash bags and a limited supply of work gloves, according to a news release.
Volunteers can earn service hours, a reusable Tumacácori water bottle, and a coupon for free entrance to any National Park of federal fee area.
Regular park admission will be free for anyone visiting the park that day.
