Two men are in custody after a violent shoplifting incident ended with gunfire at the Tucson Spectrum shopping center Tuesday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, officers initially responded to a call for a potential shooting at a Foot Locker store, 1223 W. Irvington Rd., said Officer Chris Hawkins.
Officers were told that two people entered Foot Locker and began taking items. When employees confronted them, one of the suspects assaulted an employee and another suspect fired a gun into the ground, said Tucson Police Sgt. Pete Dugan.
The employee sustained minor injuries from the altercation, Hawkins said.
The suspects ran to a vehicle in the parking lot where a third suspect was waiting, Dugan said.
Both Tucson Police and U.S. Marshals were in the area at the time and were able to immediately detain two suspects, according to Dugan. Police are still looking for the other suspect who ran from the scene.
Parts of the shopping center are open, though it is recommended to avoid the area.
The incident is still being investigated.
