Penzi, Reid Park Zoo's 2-year-old elephant, crushes a watermelon and Tessa, Reid Park Zoo's Baird Tapir, is encouraged by guest to eat her watermelon in a pond during the zoo's Watermelon Wednesdays at Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Ariz. on July 6, 2022. Every Wednesday in the month of the July, Reid Park Zoo gives a variety of animals watermelons as part of the zoo's animal enrichment program. "Here at the zoo, we have an enrichment program that is essentially a way for us to make their days interesting, different and creative," Cassie Dodds, animal care supervisor. Watermelon happens to be a food item that a lot of the animals enjoy, added Dodds. About 40-50 watermelons are used in the month of July for the zoo's Watermelon Wednesday which are held every year in the month of July. Video by Rebecca Sasnett, Arizona Daily Star
