In the United States, we actually select the president based on the outcome of the Electoral College vote. That is a vote of 538 electors, that are decided or that number comes from the number of members of Congress, you know, 435 members of the House, 100 senators. And then three electoral college votes that come from the District of Columbia. This differs from a lot of countries around the world where the winner of the presidency is the candidate who got the most votes nationally.
