America’s moms have formed organizations that have proved to be incredibly effective at dealing with some of society’s grittiest problems, much more so than most government agencies. Certainly they’re more effective at dealing with difficult problems than our fraudulent, useless and detestable Congress.
I think their effectiveness lies in the fact that, unlike our legislators, their interests can’t be bought, their efforts are tireless and their tenacity reminds you of a pack of pit bull terriers. Let’s face it: Most of our moms, thankfully those that have the wherewithal to get involved, have a well-grounded sense of values, and they actually know right from wrong. Also, they are aware of the changes that this country needs to improve Americans’ lifestyles without being blinded by financial gain or obligatory psychological crutches.
According to its website, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, which was formed in 1980, has saved more than 330,000 lives. In doing this, it has altered society’s perception of driving drunk, so it is no longer considered acceptable.
By June 2015, MADD was responsible for laws in 25 states that require all-offender ignition interlocks. It has done this, and much more, by staring down the worthless politicians who realized how many people were being killed by drunk driving but refused to take any action. Way to go, MADD!
Susan G. Komen is probably the best-known organization that was started by one person and grew worldwide. Not surprisingly, its promotional and marketing efforts are the most effective and forward-thinking of any company I’ve seen lately.
To date, Komen has invested more than $2.6 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 30 countries. Its efforts have helped reduce death rates from breast cancer by 34 percent since 1990 and have helped improve five-year relative survival rates for early stage cancers from 74 to 99 percent. And Komen moms have turned pink from a strictly effeminate hue into a color that symbolizes courage, strength and determination.
Another “moms” organization that is marching resolutely uphill is Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Again from the website: “The day after the Sandy Hook tragedy, Shannon Watts started a Facebook page that grew into a grassroots movement of American mothers fighting for public safety features that respect the 2nd Amendment and protect people from gun violence.
“Moms Demand Action has established chapters in every state of the union and, along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun-violence-prevention organization in the country with more than 2 million members and more than 38,000 donors.”
Undoubtedly there are many other organizations (some even run by dads) that are stepping up to improve our lifestyle.
And we don’t even have to pay them $174,000 a year. What a deal!
