Re: the June 24 column "Tucson's Bruce Ash is fighting to quell an RNC rebellion."
I find Barbara LaWall's recent claim that the position of county attorney is not an open seat very disturbing. Nothing, not longevity nor performance, should be construed to imply entitlement to an elected position. Does LaWall seriously mean that she is not subject to the will of the voters and their right to freely cast their ballots for whom they wish for the elected position she currently holds?
This comment and what it implies and her refusal to discuss her positions in a public forum make me even more confident that it is time for her to leave office. Her apparent lack of respect for the voters of Pima County and, perhaps even more distressing, her apparent lack of respect for the democratic process are not the values that I want in my elected officials, especially one who holds such an important and impactful position as the County Attorney. LaWall's comment served to double my support for Joel Feinman's election.
