Re: the Aug. 1 article "Proposals for closed school include truck parking, farm."

Gratitude to the Star's Alex Devoid for the Aug. 1 front page story on the Flower and Bullets collective proposal for Julia Keen School. Tito Romero's vision for tackling the disparities in healthy food access should be supported by all in our area, where one in four children remain food-insecure. I pledge any technical support that may be needed by the collective from our Center for Regional Food Studies and hope others will lend a hand.

That said, Romero's concern that "Tucson is backwards right now with this whole green (and organic) movement... leaving poor people behind," is odd. We can agree that poor people are being left behind in healthy food access, but I don't think "green" and "organic" is the cause. Of some 1,200 restaurants and other eateries in Tucson, perhaps less than 50 offer significant percentages of organic or locally-sourced fresh foods. Our entire community has limited access to healthy foods. Another urban farm will help.
