Letter: State Route 189 needs improvement to boost trade

Arizona’s members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Arizona state legislators are united behind a common-sense way to enhance Arizona's trade, economic development, and security along the Arizona-Mexico border.

Led by Rep. Martha McSally and Rep. Raul Grijalva, our Congressional members are supporting an Arizona grant application for federal transportation infrastructure funds to be used on improvements to State Route 189 in Nogales, Arizona.

State Rep. Chris Ackerley, along with Rep. Rosanna Gabaldon and Sen. Andrea Dalessandro, also sent a bi-partisan letter of support signed by 51 Arizona legislators.

State Route 189 facilitates nearly 90 percent of the $26 billion annual trade between Arizona and Mexico.

Trade, economic development and security are priorities requiring a quality transportation system that supersedes politics and regional divides.
