Re: the June 24 column "Tucson's Bruce Ash is fighting to quell RNC rebellion."
Barbara LaWall's statement that the county attorney position was not a "open seat" meant that there were not two newcomers to the office, not that she was entitled to the job. For 40 years she's served as a prosecutor, the last 20 as the elected official. She has a track record already upon which voters can make a decision.
She has started or expanded programs in Pima County that are copied nationwide, such as victim advocates who work compassionately with victims 365 days a year and court house dogs that comfort children. She has initiated programs to help defendants with diversion, drug court, alternatives to prison and juvenile community justice boards. The list is extensive and she is sought out by prosecutors nationally.
While Feinman is a nice man and an excellent defense lawyer, he has no experience supervising employees (the county attorney has 400), no budget experience (the Count Attorney has a $30 million dollar budget with a fight for national grant money involved). That kind of experience matters.
