Re: the August 14 article "41-second video of El Jefe stirs months of controversy."

In the fall of 2000, I was the sales manager of Green Valley’s Madera Reserve, located east on the way to the Santa Rita mountains. One morning, having been asked by the owner to make a recommendation on a building site for his lot in the northeast section of the community, I encountered a very large black cat that I could only describe as a full-sized panther, that came within 20 feet of me.

Returning to my office, I made calls to the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum and the Botanical Gardens where I was told that I saw a large domesticated house cat, because "Panthers do not exist in this area." Two weeks later, a women entered the sales office and related a story about having run into a “black panther" just down the road from my original encounter. I have since heard other similar anecdotes. This proves nothing; however, in my case, I know it to be true.
