Re: More towers for student housing planned in Tucson. Developers are negotiating the purchase of two sites.

Rae Saunders: All the poor city planning and stubborn refusal to move this city forward for decades is now coming home to roost, in towers above campus. One thing Arizona State University has over the University of Arizona is the layout of the campus and the light-rail system that actually serves a purpose.

Jonathan Kandell: You can’t blame city planning for West University Neighborhood intransigence.

Jude Johnson: Might fit into Tucson’s historical vibe if you built them in the same style as the old Valley Bank building downtown. Style would be nice, or we’ll prove Linda Ronstadt right about it all looking Stalin-esque.

Carl Meyer: As an urban development graduate, I am so glad to see Tucson investing in projects like this.

Joe Garcia: Things like these projects actually begin to make Tucson more attractive to potential businesses. It just looks more modern as opposed to old and faded.

Brandon Zuniga: For now, infill and building up is infinitely preferable to more sprawl.

Thomas Camp: Those of us who have been around for a while have seen how these β€œsocial trends driven by money” go. They eventually fail just like a fad hamburger joint, and usually at some expense to taxpayers.

Debbie Barnette: Do those student loans they feel so burdened with include these inflated rents that pad the pocket of the developers? Maybe some of the rent money could be used to pay tuition.
