I lived in Tucson for about 9 months in 2015 and worked with the Tucson Samaritans. I moved to Oaxaca, Mexico in 2016. I return to Tucson at least once a year and participate in the Samaritan meetings and other activities. I am back in Oaxaca, and am now just reading this article (in late April). I found this article, the project and the creators words to be incredibly moving. When I return to Tucson at the end of the year, I will seek out this project to see the quilts. I am so moved, I would like to try to bring the quilts to Oaxaca to be exhibited. Though most migrants to the US come from Central America, and fewer from Mexico, the majority of those Mexicans who do make the crossing are from Oaxaca. I think it would be a significant exhibit for this town.
Thanks so much to the women quilters for the project and for this wonderful article.
